About some of the issues that face the fediverse, Hubzilla's efforts to push nomadic identity and the fact that more and more associations and companies (potentially not exclusively relying on one sole admin) set their own instances could partly mitigate them.

The only reproach I have regarding this project is that it often uses high techs that need rare materials. I am more of a analogic kind of designer, more interested in the Amish lifestyle than anything else. I don't reject computer-based technology but I think we shouldn't have it at the center of our lives.

Oh yes, the project is huge! The guy that launched it doesn't receive a lot of help though, afaik, hence most projects are progressing slowly.
