@unruhe Without any details (exact LibreOffice version, Linux distribution, desktop environment and toolkit in use) it's very hard for us to say. You can let our Design community know with a bug report at https://bugs.documentfoundation.org but please do provide lots of details about your setup, otherwise we can only make random guesses...
@GrahamDowns Yes! A choice during installation (if possible) or on first-start would perhaps be a good way to keep long-term users happy, but ensure new users get something they may prefer too. Let's see what our @libodesign team thinks...
@GrahamDowns There are no plans to remove the "traditional" layout – so no worries 😉 Regarding making something the default, that's a difficult task we have to juggle.
Is our goal to help as many people as possible to use Free and Open Source software?
If yes, we need to make an app that's appealing and welcoming to new users too. Making the tabbed interface the default on new installations one day may be important in that. But of course, with a very obvious way to switch...
@GrahamDowns Then... Just don't use it. It's purely optional, created by volunteers who want it. The traditional user interface isn't going away, as mentioned.
Did you know that #LibreOffice has a tabbed user interface option? Make sure you're using the latest release, LibreOffice 24.2, to get the most from it! (And you can find it in the menu under View > User Interface...) #foss#opensource#freesoftware
@Albirew Not yet! You could submit it as an enhancement request here: https://bugs.documentfoundation.org – But of course, we're a volunteer-driven project with very limited resources. To get a new feature more quickly, you can consider helping our volunteers, or funding a developer. Thank you ☺️👍
@edi Not a missed chance – an opportunity for someone to add it! We do all we can, but we're a volunteer-driven project with very limited resources. If you'd like that extra feature, please help us to implement it 😊 https://www.libreoffice.org/community/get-involved/
