One thing I absolutely despise about all modern operating systems is how simple things sometimes just don't fucking work. Why does the clipboard sometimes randomly break in Windows AND KDE using Wayland? We may never know.

I feel like security experts never interact with real people. So many things done in the name of "security" make the world less secure because it's such a pain that users resort to less secure practices.

Should I make this instance's slogan "not banned in Brazil"?

If your 2 factor authentication entry control is anything other than a single text input then you have failed. This trend of "we want a single text box per character" needs to die because it fucks with copy/paste and password managers.
Bonus points if it auto-validates instead of making the user submit so I get locked out of my account because of a typo on my phone. Thanks idiots.

Anyone who thinks that image generation is going to replace artists hasn't actually tried to create something with it when they have an idea in their mind of how it should look.

Dependency hell is a real place and anyone who tells you otherwise has never tried to run any moderately complex software before.

@yakumo_izuru I agree. I don't think any LLM is "intelligent". I could see someone making an argument for it though. I can't see how you could make the argument for stable diffusion being intelligent.

After all, humans "hallucinate" all the time, we just call it "lying" or "being full of shit".

I also really hate how it's called "AI", especially for image generation.

You can at least make an argument for text-based generation being "intelligent". Stable-diffusion and the like are pure mathematics.

I don't really mind "ai" generated images but I do mind when people absolutely flood sites with low-effort content created with it, especially when it isn't tagged properly.

I think the biggest tragedy of the push for everything to be a website online is how desktop window management has been neglected and left to rot.

@yakumo_izuru yeah, I prefer Nheko for my daily driver, though Element works fine on my Windows rig so I usually don't mess with it. The Linux Flatpak loses my session data about once a month, so I just stopped.

Element on Android is effectively unusable with 10+ minute sync times unless you open it multiple times a day. It also drains battery worse than my old IRC client which is an accomplishment.

Why can't anyone make a good #matrix android client? Element is effectively unusable, ElementX is unstable and not feature complete yet, and FluffyChat breaks with every major update. I know Android itself is a garbage OS, but I'm sure as hell not going to ever going to use iOS.

Now that I'm back on XMPP, I've returned to the days of having at least three chat clients open at any given time.

@yakumo_izuru Honestly, while I don't regret choosing Mastodon for my instance it definitely has shortcomings. I was considering Misskey, but I really don't like Misskey's UI and just having a single tab open made my old laptop cry.

I probably should've looked into smaller alternatives, but then again, there's some value in running the "default" on occasion.
