There are people that like the dozen or so characters that the Dreamcast games had and whatever weird lore they slapped together on top of the shift to 3D
There are even people that embrace the cringe the post-Dreamcast games had
It's not one fandom, it's two or three, and you kind of have to choose who you're catering to. The sidescroller fans want a Genesis game. That's it. There's no need to "seek a new audience," just use it to give millennials memberberries and if the games are good, then it will attract others that are curious.

Kanto's supposed to be, well, Kanto so basically Tokyo, and Johto the area to the west of Tokyo. Hoenn is Kyushu, I think, and Sinnoh is Hokkaido.

And yeah, Mew was found in the Guyana jungle and that led to the rest of the Pokemon being discovered in Red and Blue, I remember thinking how weird that was when I first played them. It makes a little sense with Kanto being an actual place in real life.

@ArdainianRight That's the one thing I'd say that's different, there was hope. Computers were advancing at such a rapid pace and the potential of the internet was still being realized. There was still a healthy space program and we were looking forward to a bright new millennium, that Jetsons future we felt we were promised. There's a reason Y2K Futurism was a thing.

Then we had the .com bubble bursting, 9/11, the housing crisis, forever wars, and smartphones instead. Even the big technological breakthrough of the now, AI, horrifies people rather than inspires them. That's why the stereotypical style of the now is all escapist and nostalgic. No hope.

@coolboymew @McMongoose I mean, I view it as a tool more than a game myself. I've messed with it some, mostly studio rigging, but I haven't touched the game portion any. From what I read I can agree it'd be really stupid and not very fun.

@coolboymew @McMongoose They're heavily moddable and just complex enough to reward autistic tweaking and modification without having as sharp of a learning curve as Blender.
The gameplay and story is awful but for being a waifu dollhouse Koikatsu is pretty damn good. A lot of the Pleroma-tan OC you see around is made using it.
