There's a lot more to praise Fedi on than this, but one thing that's seriously an improvement over other platforms is that moderation (at least on small and non-tenderqueer instances) fully understands what things like slur reclamation and dogwhistles are. Moderation, in general, needs context in order to decide what one is saying, and that's something only real people could do. A robot can only see "1488" or "All Hail the Merchants' Guild!" as mere numbers and random phrases respectively. A human can see the playfulness of a queer user calling another user "gay." As a result, most notable platforms have never really been able to weed out its worst users (especially since they instead have an incentive to make money), where most complaints of Fedi's moderation are that it's too much.
It's still something to be greatly improved on, though, especially when it comes to our behavior. Mainly, we still guilt others through association (which happened just recently as of writing this (I'll spare you the details this time, and just say that it was complete bullshit)). We have to ensure admins like SuperDicq shouldn't keep getting fucked over for not Fediblocking the same instances they shit on. We have to ensure instances don't do what https://tech.lgbt has done, which was to surrender to the people behind The Bad Space (an unforgiving project that fucked over innocent instances), only for it to get fucked over anyways.
@adiz@soc0.outrnat.nl@iska@catposter.club I've had no luck with Fedi apps in general. I found that most of them are too glitchy for me to use over just browsing Fedi through the web (especially when that is stable in comparison). Fedilab fails to load up the media tab sometimes and doesn't want to connect to the instance my NSFW acc is in, and Kaiteki is hard to scroll through without it freaking out. Even when there is a stable Fedi app, it just seems too limited for me, especially when I've truly gotten attached to the feature-rich Misskey forks. Tusky is basically designed for vanilla Mastodon (the horrors!), and most desktop Fedi clients, such as Tuba and Tokodon, just don't have the crucial "All/Posts and Replies" and "Media/Including Files" sections in profiles for some reason.
Hey!This is me, Poppy Farbird, and I am the radmin of fedizens.perchinup.top, an instance I have created due to my passion for Fedi (and a willingness to persist even with my shit-tier sysadmin skills). I am also a queer furry artist, libre-software advocate, and leftist.
