On this #TransDayOfVisibility, I checked out my child's camp guide. It says "[Camp] welcomes those who live and identify as female regardless of the gender assigned to them at birth and those assigned female at birth who identify as non-binary or gender non-conforming". Does your kid's camp welcome trans children? If not, speak up and ask them to add to their guides. You don't have to be a parent of a transgender child to speak up.
Art, Strike! will be open for collaborations between April 2 to 30 from trans, nonbinary, two-spirit, and otherwise gender variant artists & writers.
How it works: send us work, and if we accept it, we'll edit & publish & print & promote it & pay you what you ask for from a shared fund-pool that starts with $500, which we'll replenish as often as possible. More here:
Honestly, all I want for #TransDayOfVisibility is for ALLIES, not trans people themselves, to be obnoxiously visible in their support for trans rights. Day in, day out.
Like, I have seen some of you toot your support, and thank you for that, it does register.
But what I really need from cis allies is for your support to be unavoidable for all others who interact with you.
Make a post of your own, with the right hashtags, like #TransRightsAreHumanRights. Pin it, or put those hashtags in your profile.
And then take that into the real world, too. Step off the path of least resistance, and start making people uncomfortable.
Today is important to me because if I had more #trans people visible in my life, if i were better informed, if I were less ignorant it wouldn't have taken me 3 decades to realize who I am.
I can barely imagine how much less my first 34 years of life could have been, but there's nothing I can do about that*
So as long as i have the privilege of being out I will be.
For me, for the years i lost, and for anyone whose egg cracks just 1 day sooner.
I'm really disappointed, and yet sadly not surprised, that we've had so many reports of abuse today after people have posted their support for the #TransDayOfVisibility. This only shows how important this is. There is an ever increasing amount of legislation, vitriol and hate against the trans members of our community who just want to be live their lives, and be treated with the same rights, dignity, and respect as everyone else. All they're asking is to exist without being afraid every time they step out of the house or open a web browser. No-one should have to fear taking up space in the world.
So, to all my #trans friends, you are seen, you are respected, you are loved.
I was feeling good this week, anyway here is a pic of me - I grew some boobs this year, I am quite proud of them #trans#transdayofvisibility Yeah I know I am old - in my 50s, but it's never too late guys!
Today is the #TransDayOfVisibility, and this year more than ever, trans folks need _everyone_ (yes, including you) to help fight against truly hateful legislation seeking to actively harm trans people. Trans rights are human rights, and trans folks deserve to be treated with the same rights, dignity, and respect as anyone else. 🩵🩷🤍
