It's so funny to me that shitlibs on the #social sites are saying that #polymarket is rigged by muh rich #white #male oppressor.

They aren't taking into consideration that the #rich #whales are risking their own money staking on an outcome they consider to be an inevitability. Or that the total size of the betting market is too big for any one whale to manipulate. Or that every market position requires a counter-party betting on the opposite outcome.

Keeping bad actors away from the #fediverse is a #social problem that cannot be solved with #technology alone. However technology is one tool we can use to reduce the negative impact of bad actors as a first line of defense.

For anyone interested using technology for keeping bad actors off of #Mastodon and the fedeiverse to the greatest extent possible, check out @Are0h website: https://thebad.space/about . It has an block-list API which in my opinion should be incorporated into the Mastodon reference implementation to make it easier for instance maintainers and system operators to share and coordinate efforts. Since (as far as I can see, at the time of this writing) these features are NOT built-in to the current Mastodon reference implementation, which shows an unfortunate lack of concern and understanding by the maintainers of mastodon.social, we have to resort to these round-about means to keep malicious users from attacking our communities.

@autiomaa @krzysztofdrozdowski Not to mention (no pun intended) that there is a very real social difference between a public @mention that you don’t want to broadcast to all your followers (should be the default) vs a direct message. The default should be that you can say something to someone publicly without pointing at them and shouting “hey, everyone, listen to what I’m about to tell so-and-so!”

I am exploring #masters in #Sociology and #ComputerSciences, specifically investigating focusing #Internet and #socialMedia.

I would like to steer clear of courses made for humanists who need something trendy because they would not get hired otherwise.

I am looking for something that goes deep in investigating the #social value and social essence of the #Web, possibly considering its intertwining with #Economics and #Politics. I would love to study more and tackle the fundamental relationship technical choices and social effects have.

In fewer words, I would like to attend a master that, if it was a book, it would be The Age of #Surveillance #Capitalism by Shoshana #Zuboff.

I would be happy if it was in a #Europen #university, but I am not reluctant to push myself beyond #EU borders. I am not good at #studying, but I love this topic and I think it is too underestimated.

NOTE: I would also try to avoid that goes too much into the domain of #Law, but I do not mind tinkering with #Philosophy… it is my current major, after all.

Probably @doctorow, @vecna, @mikarv, @aral might have some ideas!
