Oh yea, I was casually observing the whole "build the entire universe on top of Etherium" meme from a safe distance, I didn't want to participate in it simply because I know it's a meme that everyone will forget about in a year or 2, I know Etherium is a WEF controlled blockchain, and I never really liked this whole smart contract concept in a cryptocurrency (to me it's nothing but bloatware).
I remember there was a short amount of time in which it was literally impossible to find programming contracts that didn't involve blockchain, Etherium, NFTs, or Dead Universe, I mean Metaverse.
And seeing the state of all of the above today, turned out I was so right about this, and every time I warn a ship for the iceberg 1000s kilometers in the distance, nobody is willing to steer away until the ship has hit that iceberg, the ship has long reached the bottom of the ocean, and has been rotting down there for a long time.
And then they all forget soon after, and are more than willing to hit yet another iceberg with another ship.
I figured something fishy was going on with Nostr.
I don't mind this "crypto culture" part as much, but my biggest complaint has been how lacky the documentation is, and how broken Gossip is (if you use character encoding other than UTF-8, then it's just broken).
My first test message was in Japanese, and it got turned just a bunch of squares, so I already got dismotivated in trying it out any further.
Overal it feels more like something like LINE/Telegram/Discuck modified to have SNS (and Git??) functionality with a crypto wallet-like touch.
And to be realistic, would you trust Jack after all those years he controlled Shitter and keeping bending over for the leftist hate mobs?
Recently, #Nostr protocol has started to gain traction, apparently because a former Twitter CEO started promoting it.
In this post I want to compare it with #ActivityPub because some people think Nostr is superior.
Advantages
- Censhorship resistance. If one relay prevents you from communicating with your friend, you can easily add another one. - Identity is not attached to a particular server.
While these things are good and important, there's nothing in ActivityPub spec that prevents developers from implementing them. Nostr proponents are lying about that, even on their official website. Chatternet project clearly demonstrates that you can use DIDs with ActivityPub. It can't connect to existing Fediverse platforms but I'm implementing similar solutions in Mitra in a way that preserves backwards compatibility as much as possible.
Disadvantages
I won't talk about the problems that can be solved, because obviously Nostr ecosystem is very young. But in my opinion it has three fundamental flaws:
- Clients can hide important protocol details from the user. Choosing relays and managing private keys is burdensome, so clients that don't force user to think about this will be more popular. As a result, people flock to sites like iris.to and this will lead to extreme centralization. This happened to all other web3 social platforms, and we can already see this happening to Nostr. - Nostr was created by bitcoin cultists and they have complete control over the NIP process. If you want to use any other currency there's always a risk that your proposals will be censored. And tying entire ecosystem to a single non-fungible coin is generally a bad idea. - Nostr is not based on web standards. This means it won't benefit from the adoption of emerging standards like DIDs and verifiable credentials. Reinvention of the wheel leads to unnecessary fragmentation and harms everyone.
So I see no reason to build anything on Nostr. Also, despite the hype I doubt that it will ever become more popular than Fediverse because ordinary people and organizations don't care about "censorship resistance" and "zaps". For them Fediverse is good enough.

寮So idiot is doubling down.
Very predictable, but still good to know.
If you still insist on uploading to JewTube, here's yet another reminder to the fact that you're working for a boss that absolutely hates you.
Over here most of the gloybohomo trends are only trendy among the politicians and fake news media, which are all a bunch of Jews anyway.
And also among the NPC class, but I feel like most are just pretending out of fear of standing out too much.
And sometimes stuff are legit popular, but only for as long as there's something like a discount.
For example, if you get 2% off for using PayPay instead of cash, there'll be lots of PayPay users, but as soon as that's over, many of them will go right back to using cash.

寮Noticed how every single modern soycialist/communist happens to be a jobless, skill-less loser on the internet with a massive student debt?
Also noticed that as soon as those very same people get a well paying full time job, they all of the sudden become libertarian/capitalist?
It ALMOST seems like if they just want free money from soyciety while jobless, and keep everything to themselves when they do have a job!
And it's the same with politicians; they are all for "diversity and inclusion", but as soon as they get their "diversity and inclusing" too close to their own residences, all of the sudden they become full blown "racist biggots".
Like if they're admitting that they don't actually want "diversity and inclusion", and it's all just a bunch of virtue signalling (which is a fancy way of saying "being a fucking liar").

寮I tried Nostr, and it seem like I will need to make my own client before I start using it, because Gossip is brokenware.
Because yes, if your software uses any character encoding other than UTF-8, it's just broken.
Eww always jumps ahead on almost the entire world, Japan is always last.
If someone inbetween refuses to comply, then it will never reach here (at least, not over the next 2 or so generations).
And of course Europeans are so hopelessly brainwashed, no way they will ever put their foot down.
Being late has its advantages too.
On the other hand, unlike email, everyone is spread over many instances, and setting up your own isn't all that hard.
So if Fakebook really wanted to centralize it into their own hands, they'd probably need to get 80% or more of the world population using their instance, then cut everyone else off (like how Gab, """truth""" Soycial, and GC2 did), and make setting up your own instance as undoable as possible (or just make it seem like so).
And so far, Gargeon did a good job resisting the corporate takeover, so that's good to see.
Also, Fediblock has done more to destroy ActivityPub than Fakebook could possibly have done.
Because Fediblock is by design a seggregation tool to exclude all the instances that only slightly disagree with the status quo (ironically the side that claims to be against the ruling ideology abide to exactly that ruling ideology, and it's those of us who don't who are being called ismphobia all the time).
Most likely artificial considering how they made a nuclear power plant explode (which was probably their biggest goal), and the date 3/11 being just as Masonic as 9/11.
Oh fuck...
I don't even use Debian anymore (I still have 1 Devuan server left to convert to either FreeBSD or OpenBSD, for now it just exists as a legacy server while I'm still porting over Linux init scripts to BSD rc scripts).
