   When I was a kid and thought about America, I always had the idea that we could work together to solve whatever problem came along. I thought that was what made this country great. But recently it's apparent there's nothing that binds Americans together anymore, and it became really apparent after the election of Trump and the pandemic. It's hugely disappointing but I guess it's better to realize it honestly than just deluding yourself.

     9/11 aftermath was a feeling that's impossible for kids today to understand. We still felt like we had a country back then, warts and all. Now even the illusion of that is long gone.

     @PraxisOfEvil The only place I've seen residual high-trust interactions is in White parts of the south. As long as you're White and don't look like an East Palestine freight load hitting a meth lab, they'll still be incredibly polite. It is very refreshing.
     
     I've had long conversations with them, just for my normie friends to roll their eyes and talk about "that guy who wouldn't just shut up". So I guess if you're looking for it, it can still be found.
     
     Hope we can return to that.

     the bonds of blood and belief were dissolved centuries ago and we live in an imperial state
     
     up til lately it had the benefit of high standard of living but these days? less and less

     There was definitely plenty of retardation there, but at least it was American retardation. Now we've got protests in Arabic and counterprotests in Hebrew on every corner.
