Paul Tourville (taobear@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 03-Feb-2024 20:25:34 JST Paul Tourville @nixCraft Well, I 've only been saying /this/ for twenty years. Computer performance has increased to insane levels over the last thirty or so years, and software has managed to fill all that space with asbestos and blancmange to the point that work-a-day tasks /still/ take just as long as they did on an Osborne 1

Freevolt (freevolt24@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 03-Feb-2024 20:28:55 JST Freevolt @nixCraft Idk. Suppose you didn't affort a good meal when your bank balance was $0. Now that you're making $100 a day, you decided to invest in your better meal and the balance keeps going down to $0 again. Would you call it negating the bank account?

Modern software can do amazing things. potpie (potpie@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 03-Feb-2024 21:33:01 JST potpie @nixCraft This is what makes me feel like a grumpy old man. Instead of complaining about "kids these days," I go on rants about slow software, apps that need constant updating, functionality that changes all the time, and poor user interfaces. I find myself telling young people about buying programs on CDs "back in the day." Send help.
