@MK2boogaloo @Zerglingman I don't have much to say :retardsip: just that I think fedi social games would be cool :retard:

@eidolon @MK2boogaloo One thing I started noting in board games a while ago is which ones don't require any hidden information. That is, hidden from other players, rather than hidden from all players. This was because on dicksore it was extremely troublesome to message a player with some portion of game info and keep the rest in channel. On fedi you can do it in-line much more easily (well on my client at least kek), so it's not so big of a deal, but I still note it because it can be relevant in other contexts (eg. matrix, although I wonder if fucking with encryption could manage this).
Some that I want to do (whenever I have a sensible game framework):
- Azul (probably the original, not Stained Glass; It just didn't impress me)
- Splendor (I need to yoink card data)
- ... Something I forgot. I'll figure it out again at some point.
-
@Zerglingman @MK2boogaloo I've never played azul but it looks cool
-
@eidolon @MK2boogaloo Oh I also want to do Patchwork, with 3/4p mod. That's not the one I forgot.
Azul is pretty good, I knew a guy who always rushed colour bonus, and basically won every game doing it. I don't know how, it shouldn't be a good strategy. But I was scoring for him, since he is not a fan of numbers, so I can say it's definitely correct.
-
@Zerglingman @MK2boogaloo what about a game like trivial pursuit, how difficult would that be
-
@eidolon @MK2boogaloo Probably simple? I don't actually know how Trivial Pursuit works. I think I have a copy of it that I got given during a cleanout. Trivia bots are straightforward enough. (I should totally do up a new SWAT trivia bot, since the old bnet one is probably long dead.)
-
@Zerglingman @MK2boogaloo actually that wouldn't work since someone could just look up the answers
-
@eidolon @MK2boogaloo Yeah I mean, trivia doesn't really make for a good game to begin with. You throw literally *any* game desgin principle at it and it crumbles. People enjoy it anyway though (see: quiz nights) so whatever.
-
@Zerglingman @MK2boogaloo i think trivia works when it's specific to a fan base like idk transformers trivia, general trivia is trickier. I actually think the format of the TV show Pointless does it the best.
-
@eidolon @MK2boogaloo That makes sense. It still fails pretty much every game design metric, except that there's generally less pre-game bias. But, yeah, it's fun and that's the only important metric. Just don't take it too seriously.
(Also I recently realised, at a public quiz night, that "general trivia" basically means celebrities and a dash of political history, AKA celebrities type 2.)
-
@Zerglingman @MK2boogaloo yes, this is what @cassidyclown and I realised while playing trivial pursuit. Most of it was either celebrity nonsense gossip nobody cared about, George Bush and Saddam (it was the 2004 edition), and movies, book, and TV shows nobody remembers.
-
@eidolon @cassidyclown @MK2boogaloo You guys should come play Tragedy Looper with me some time.
It's not trivia. :^)
-
@cassidyclown @MK2boogaloo @eidolon (I would not want to try to put Tragedy Looper on a chat bot.)
-
@eidolon @Zerglingman @MK2boogaloo every single card had at least one George Bush question it was insane
-
@cassidyclown @MK2boogaloo @Zerglingman the funniest was "Who did Nelson Mandela call the greatest threat to world peace?"
-
@eidolon @MK2boogaloo @cassidyclown NELSON MANDELA DIED IN JAIL
I DON'T THINK I'M EVEN FROM THAT TIMELINE
-
@Zerglingman @cassidyclown @MK2boogaloo do you remember the sun being yellow or bright white like an LED like it is now
-
@eidolon @cassidyclown @MK2boogaloo I don't remember it being yellow.
But that may be because I'm Australian.
-
@Zerglingman @cassidyclown @MK2boogaloo different timeline to me @cassidyclown will say i'm misremembering
-
@eidolon @cassidyclown @MK2boogaloo I still need to figure out how to generate a unique ID for each timeline so I can act as an anchor for others.
Maybe I could just use niggercoin, but I'm not sure the entropy of /dev/urandom is high enough.
-
@eidolon @Zerglingman @MK2boogaloo you remember it as yellow because when you were a child and drawing the big sun on a white A4 piece of paper, only yellow could contrast with white
-
@cassidyclown @MK2boogaloo @Zerglingman no i was able to look directly at the sun as a child
-
@eidolon @MK2boogaloo @cassidyclown ..... I think I could do that?
-
@Zerglingman @cassidyclown @MK2boogaloo i guess the timeline didn't change then
-
@eidolon @MK2boogaloo @Zerglingman incandescent bulb
-
@cassidyclown @MK2boogaloo @Zerglingman ok James Randi
-
@cassidyclown @MK2boogaloo @Zerglingman you're like shoeonhead, a skepchick
-
@Zerglingman @eidolon @MK2boogaloo ran into this problem when thinking about how to make a poker bot - I quickly realised the only way it could work is if everyone got sent a private link to an off-fedi client and then the bot redistributes the grans on fedi at the end of the game. But then the process of getting people to buy chips with their grans and getting everyone tagged to agree to a poker game would be tedious and unworkable. I think that otherwise something that uses an off-fedi client, without grans integration and where it's reasonable for players to take a long time to take their turn could work better - like 8-ball pool. With the bot just sending updates when it's time for x user's turn and who won the game etc.
-
@cassidyclown @eidolon @MK2boogaloo Just integrate the game into the webui, that's what all the cool kids do.
-
@eidolon @MK2boogaloo @cassidyclown (Actually it's relatively straightforward to just chuck a DM on the end of a thread on fedi, that's how rance works currently, but it only does it during setup phase, then the actual game is all public. But on my client, at least, it's all inline so it should work fine for poker or whatever.
Poker isn't a particularly good game either.)
-
@Zerglingman @cassidyclown @MK2boogaloo texas holdem poker is a great game
-
@eidolon @cassidyclown @MK2boogaloo ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
If you want good bluffing, try literally anything from Sirlin?
-
@Zerglingman @cassidyclown @MK2boogaloo do I get to say "I'm all in :blobcatcool: "
-
@eidolon @cassidyclown @MK2boogaloo Pandante, which is basically his take on poker, specifically doesn't have that because he thinks it makes the game less fun.
I actually agree with him, specifically because Pandante is actually fun to play to begin with, unlike poker, where the most fun thing I can do is go all in with high card.
-
@Zerglingman @eidolon @MK2boogaloo it's fun when people actually value their chips and aren't just being retarded about it
-
@cassidyclown @Zerglingman @MK2boogaloo yeah when people are playing rationally, poker is great
