it's a starch (polysaccharide) whose glycemic Index = 136. Table sugar's glycemic index is only 65.
The technical name is maltodextrin: But on food labels, it may be called any of dextrin, modified food starch, glucose syrup or corn syrup.
And because of where it comes from and how it's processed, it also carries a payload of glyphosate and gluten.
Industry gets around any and all FDA regulation of maltodextrin (and of MANY other substances) simply by formally claiming to the FDA that it's "generally recognized as safe" (GRAS.) There is no requirement for scientific verification, and the FDA does not question it.
