Got an hour to wait until Hatsune's banner
Might as well flash linux mint on my old laptop
-
Brat wasn't cooperating at first but they all come around eventually :DamnFemaleKid:
-
Holy shit laptop isn't a slow piece of shit anymore
All that HP bloat crap must've been fucking it hardcore
-
@Meemoo laptops are notorious for being crowded with bloat and being slowed down by windows. I saved my mom's laptop by putting mint on it lmao
-
@Kyonko802 it was nigh unusable to be honest
I tried getting the windows key off of it before nuking the whole drive and it was miserably slow
-
@Meemoo foss hermits will bitch about how bloated modern Linux has gotten but it's not bloated. It's just keeping up with modern hardware. Some people are just obsessed with their computer being run exclusively from command line, but even the most bloated Linux distro is better than your laptop just not fucking working for five straight minutes.
-
@Kyonko802 @Meemoo yeah because your init system needs a fucking dns resolver in it right? Get the fuck out
-
@s8n @Meemoo you can complain as much as you want when it slows your laptop down for minutes at a time, you OCD fucker :kekw:
-
@Kyonko802 @Meemoo the thing is, nobody's stopping you from installing arch or artix and not installing any GUI to it and keeping it strictly in commandline
-
@lina @Meemoo the complaints would make more sense if those options just straight up were not available yep

@Kyonko802 @Meemoo it's not the gui that's bloating the system, it's billion dbus daemons obstructing classic unix-y IPC, which is probably the coolest thing about the os. They often come with the system to support the "modern" gui apps, but it absolutely doesn't have to be this way, and there's much space to argue the benefits.

only one needed on desktop, it's the syslog so you can paste it into online search and run shady one-liners to mount your usb sticks w

many such cases. How come it's always redhatware? :trollge:

@menherahair @Kyonko802 @Meemoo UNIX pipe is unfortunately limited to only one subscriber, same with plain network sockets without some protocol on top. DBUS might not be ideal, but so far only standardized way to handle one event in multiple destinations, which becomes useful once you start having hardware/network hot-plugging, multiple power states, or other system-wide events. Benefits from using dbus as RPC however are indeed fleeting, unless you absolutely need that per-method ACL, but then you'd probably need something like apparmor/selinux and bpf regardless.
