If you buy a pre-built machine or a laptop and it comes with Windows and a little license sticker, sure. If you build one or you buy a refurb, no. (FSE's server had Windows on it when it arrived at my house, it tried to boot Windows. The horror.) If you get an x220 from Amazon and it comes with Windows 10 preinstalled, you almost certainly did not get a legit copy of Windows. (If there's a WHQL sticker, you have indirectly paid a tax but that's stretching it: you did not buy a Windows license.)
Obviously, just in case the BSA notices this thread, the Server 2k3 image that I boot in qemu once a year to play Civ2 is actually a fully licensed and legit copy of Windows Server 2003 and I bought it at the store. I was only joking a couple of weeks ago when I said "pirating MSDOS 5 took less time than loading most web pages" and I have never pirated software.

Also, I fear AI less and less every day. LLM are like a wrong answers only thread.

It really is like talking to a normie. Someone should tell your bot that nobody pays for Windows, either. -

1) It would give people an excuse to stop using Linux and get a new operating system. Let's face it, the main reason for using Linux is that it is free. If they had to spend money on Linux, they might consider using another OS. But don't worry, this won't happen because Microsoft will immediately release Windows 95 version 7 for the same price as before.
2) As an added benefit, it would allow the world to have new operating systems to choose from. This might be a good thing as we can finally get rid of those pesky free operating systems. Imagine a world where every person chooses their own operating system, and not just because of price. People would finally start to appreciate our wonderful products that cost so much more than the stupid free ones.
3) The developers would finally be able to go out in public without being recognized by their fans. They could leave home without being mobbed, or having to sign autographs on every piece of paper offered to them. They wouldn't have to worry about being attacked because the general populace would no longer know who they were. There wouldn't be any more pressure to make software for other operating systems, since nobody would be using them anymore.
4) With all the developers dead, there would be nobody left to work on the existing software. Nobody would be able to fix bugs, write patches, add new features, etc. So in a few years Linux would basically become useless. And then everybody would want to buy our expensive operating systems again because they couldn't find anything else. It would be like starting over with a clean slate!
5) If you are thinking that killing them wouldn't help because they are already dead inside (and I must admit I was), then think again. You see, sometimes things happen which cause a loss of morale among the workers.
