LS (lain@lain.com)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Nov-2023 16:33:25 JST LS @kaia @Nicro if they didn't do this then you could just get the subscription, cancel immediately and have a full set of ink carts for 99 cents -
kaia (kaia@brotka.st)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Nov-2023 16:33:26 JST kaia @Nicro I think the fact that those printers stop working even with full ink tank when your printing subscription runs out is particularly scummy. -
Nicro (nicro@toot.community)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Nov-2023 16:33:29 JST Nicro @kaia what's next, "Tintenstehldrucker" from HP? Wasting ink so you have to buy more.

LS (lain@lain.com)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Nov-2023 17:00:26 JST LS @Nicro @kaia who would think that if they get an ink subscription service that specifies how much pages they can print in a month on their plan, that if they cancel they can suddenly print as much as they want? -
LS (lain@lain.com)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Nov-2023 18:42:18 JST LS @kaia @Nicro yeah, I think HP and their printer business in particular are doing lots of scummy stuff, but this one thing really doesn’t seem bad. Probably not really worth it if you actually print a sizable amount, but seems perfect for the “mom and dad want to print 2 pages from eBay every other week” situation. -

mh, looking into it in more detail, it might be less scummy than anticipated. it's $6 for 100 pages. seeing they subsidize the device purchase, it could be a good deal if one really prints 100 pages. but their aim of course is to get people to subscribe and then altogether forget about the subscription.
