Even funnier is if they aren’t in range of a radio station to relay, and they had to send this via satellite instead. Would be funny to think the company paid like $50 in overage for this shit if they don’t have the plan set up for it. It probably wasn’t, this is the comms system to talk to your base and get updated instructions if you have to divert or something, but I’m surprised at how often you’ll do something like this and get an angry call when it turns out the company didn’t spring for an Iridium service plan so your in-flight connection costs them $1500 just for connecting.
But IDK, I’m in the private line of work so I don’t have to screw around with sending the company messages like this, the few times I have something with a box I have no use for it or it’s so old it’s more trouble than just spinning things in on the panel by hand. You’d have to ask the 121 guys about how common this is
