This sounds more realistic than “everyone’s WAY more productive working from home!”

Leyonhjelm (leyonhjelm@breastmilk.club)'s status on Saturday, 09-Sep-2023 03:55:44 JST Leyonhjelm case in point, just got pinged with demands that I investigate something from a guy I don’t report to asking me to blindly confirm/allow something that I’m not sure he’s even authorized for. And then he ran off to pick up his kids.

Leyonhjelm (leyonhjelm@breastmilk.club)'s status on Saturday, 09-Sep-2023 03:55:45 JST Leyonhjelm I started working from home full time long before COVID. How well one can work from home is entirely dependent upon how much they depend on others to be available or productive. I get a shit-ton done when my work meets a reasonable definition of “ready” but almost nothing when all my work is waiting on every parent who needs to go pick their kids up from school in the middle of the day or if they’re someone who simply does not do actual work. And the managers get irritated when I put too much on my board because my stagnant work items aren’t progressing - they are happier when I can report that I spent all day trying to push on the people who don’t do their work to clear my prerequisites, which looks productive on the shitty tracking software because it shows up as “collaboration”.

Poast Oak (poastoak@poa.st)'s status on Saturday, 09-Sep-2023 07:17:07 JST Poast Oak 70% paycut I took hurt but the raises are coming in fast now and it's busy as all hell so I'm getting enough OT to stop dipping in savings. Woggy's Zeonic Frolicks likes this. -
Poast Oak (poastoak@poa.st)'s status on Saturday, 09-Sep-2023 07:17:08 JST Poast Oak Yeah same deal, and my normie makework office job was gay so I thought I would join the Navy and do something useful. All it was was a new cubicle in a different state.
I resigned my commission and do construction now -
Leyonhjelm (leyonhjelm@breastmilk.club)'s status on Saturday, 09-Sep-2023 07:17:08 JST Leyonhjelm Good move. Almost all desk/office work is makework nonsense. If it weren’t so lucrative I’d quit and learn a trade. Which is my plan if they ever try to make me go to an office on the daily. If I am going to go somewhere physically for work I will do physical work.

Leyonhjelm (leyonhjelm@breastmilk.club)'s status on Saturday, 09-Sep-2023 07:17:09 JST Leyonhjelm Honestly it’s the same shit that made me hate school. I like to learn and was constantly held back in elementary school by the “grade” system, so I got bored and learned to hate it. By the time the retards could do enough basic arithmetic to learn long division I’d already read ahead in the text and learned it myself, so the constant state of boredom just made me constantly contemptuous of the entire school setup.
Now it’s the same thing except I’m even less invested in productivity because I know I won’t advance anywhere with this job.
