Everyone’s acting like the kid’s right, but what if I showed you that THIS is the kid that wrote this answer? Still on his side?
There’s plenty to ridicule in inane common core horseshit, but this is just generic school laziness. The kid isn’t outsmarting the problem, he’s just shirking work and being a nigger. He may have answered the question at a surface level, but that misses the point entirely. The words are just there to give a substrate to paint on, a chance to demonstrate understanding of the relationships between fractions.
Writing a dumb nigger answer like “‘uh because his pizza was 4 feet wide” is pointless, you’re only demonstrating sloth and a lack of capacity. Sure, it’s “right”, but it’s not fit for purpose.
Jeez, I can’t believe I’m taking a teacher’s side here. Gross.

Guys are applying their adult frame of mind to this and getting way off base. It’s a fractions worksheet, everything is about fractions, kids get that, they follow themes and apply it from one answer to another, it’s why you have to start adding more complex problems as they go in order to prove they understand the separate components and steps of the process.
If you think this is bad we need to start going over how common core teaches basic math functions now. I don’t even think the schools around here do long division these days

Tests where they're asking you "how something is possible" are literally asking you to come up with a way to make it possible. I literally don't care what the kid looked like. It's a bad question. Simple as. But let's see the rest of the paper, because if his fraction work is otherwise fine, that further proves or wrecks my point. -

It's possible that the kid understands fractions better than whoever authored this question. -

There was probably a correction on the whiteboard too, it’s a typo bc teachers are phenomenally lazy. Am I the only one who remembers school?

Santa Noodle ☦️ (bowsacnoodle@poa.st)'s status on Wednesday, 11-Jan-2023 05:33:24 JST Santa Noodle ☦️ @WashedOutGundamPilot @Shadowman311 I think this is a problem that would screw over smart or dumb kids. I can tell you I would have answered it that way, assuming I couldn't ask for clarification, and I would have argued my reasoning until the principal was involved. -

This is very common. The rare times dad comes to help out he’ll take the problem super seriously and do what everyone’s doing here, then throw up his hands and angrily write a note in the margins to the teacher about how this is CLEARLY impossible, and blah blah blah
Mom will just look, squint her eyes, and say “oh, this is reversed, they got the names mixed up”
I take issue with this because I want our people to be smarter than this, we can’t deal with everything being hyperliteral like this
