I have to give a presentation about brain stuff next Monday and prof wants it drawn on the whiteboard, so I'm doing grueling drawing exercises. not a great use for my time tbh
-
@kaia whatever you do, dont be that guy who makes 5 non-jokes about how bad your handwriting/drawing is and keeps bringing it up every time you gotta use the whiteboard
-
@why thanks, trying not to!
-
@why @kaia haha so sorry this looks so bad
-
@kaia @lain thats whats in my head
what i say: "hello i am hitler"
-
@lain @why
"haha, one could think I have hand tremors like Hitler. I mean, not that I'm like Hitler, just that my hands... I just brought up Hitler because he had parkinsonism, which has nothing to do with our topic, but Hitler had shaking hand! okay, I'll sit down again now" :kirbysweat:

@kaia @grillchen like, for vegans, or overall?
-
@grillchen interesting, I'll investigate him further. if you have more speaker suggestions, hit me up (figuratively)
-
@kaia also kinda ignored him for a long time and just stumpled upon him again. afaik he is a gigantic influence in israel. like really big. and israel has the most vegans
-
@kaia though i agree antagonizing rarely works. in my personal experience being a role model is the best way to change the world. though some people are very perceptive his method, i know it from customer support. sometimes it works. but those are a smol minority
-
@kaia or to be precise: his primary goal is not veganism but anti-speciesism. and for that the audience is his enemy, not meat producers
-
@kaia makes sense. though i believe he is a fundamentalist. he does not want people to compromise or come closer to him but to either share his opinion or argue against it. tbh i was suprised to learn at the QA he has a omnivore as a close friend for decades. didnt expect him to be tolerant in private^^
-
@grillchen he's constantly blaming and berating the audience. not a great strategy tbh. I'd go full emotional manipulation against the atrocities Big Meat instead and present veganism as the ethical solution to it.
but he antagonizes the audience by what they did so far. that's the wrong idea.
-
@kaia yeah very cult-like. but good. atleast what i saw so far (only watched a q&a
-
@grillchen Gary seems very 'in your face'. maybe that's effective to an American college audience, but it's a bit offputting for me. will watch full thing though
-
@kaia reminds me i still wanna watch the gary yourofsky talk because he is imo a pretty good speaker
-
@kaia also i can only draw stick figures and arrows. but good enough for most things
-
@kaia drawing while doing a presentation is a good presentation style though. very effective! used it alot to teach students new vocabs without translating them
-
@grillchen @lain yeah, even if it's tech stuff. all appreciated
-
@lain @kaia or special speakers
-
@lain @kaia i think overall good speakers
-
@lain @kaia tbh i just like listening to what vegan speakers say because i very often disagree with them. like their arguments/pov. but it is a very friendly thing because we can all agree on the basics. feels like the general opposite of left groups meeting
