Centralized water does make evacuating waste from the home a lot easier, but my house was built before plumbing was available and had a septic tank which I think would be fine. These days they also make composting toilets and even whole house composting systems.
I once went almost half a year without electricity because poor. It was so fun that when we got electricity back the youngster asked if we could pretend we didn't have it lol (6 or so at the time)-
Flick 🇬🇧 (flick@spinster.xyz)'s status on Tuesday, 01-Aug-2023 20:06:41 JST Flick 🇬🇧 @thatguyoverthere I’ve not had mains sewage in a decade. It’s not a problem as long as you keep an eye on it, but I’d be a bit dubious about opening a disused septic system up without getting the drainage field checked out.
I was saying to someone else, I think a big chunk of the electric question is latitude: having to turn the lights on at 3pm in winter probably makes you appreciate it more.

My Dad actually didn't believe me how far north you guys are until I put 2 fingers on a physical map on the wall to demonstrate. The climate of the island throws people off because it's quite warm for how far north you are. When I went without electricity it was during the warmer months in new jersey so lots of light (and plenty to do outside during the daylight hours). -

I'm not familiar with the liberty engine. Didn't know you had a podcast. Gotta link to the episode? -
