     @lolipunk3069 @Fullmetal2255 Psychologically this is an outgrowth of the rejection of God and religion. Children being taught about God presents them with the idea that the world is much bigger than they are and doesn't revolve around them. Revering one's ancestors likewise connects you to the larger cosmic scheme and teaches humility and duty. Without such values, people never outgrow the childish stage of everything revolving around them, so they have the power to dictate reality and morality, and drunk with this power they quickly degenerate into madness.
