@jeffcliff Gilmore has historically been a good libertarian, one of the original Cypherpunks. Extremely safe bet that he's at least RMS-compatible. He's a veteran with a golden CV vs. FSF's (stated and traditional) values.
@jeffcliff that's kind of the point. She has nothing to show for a leadership position except her commitment to vaginaism. This is not a relevant qualification. The rest -- including her "activism" amounts to, at absolute generous best, second place to Gilmore.
The only arguments in favor of her have to step outside of merit and enter the realm of equity and quota nonsense to trump Gilmore.
I know it looks bad, but I don't want to judge Christina without more than that. The only google results for her are her keynoting two separate conferences with RMS.
@jeffcliff@jeremiah Women's entire vocabulary developed around scolding children. Any position of power held by a woman inevitably devolves into scolding.
There is less of a risk if we don't include any women (it was originally mostly male and that's OK) but it *would* be a major coup if we could gain traction among women
I'll add an argument to that: She's young, and bringing more people into the fold to the inner workings can be a good way to get them and a broader community of people younger than 50 engaged with the FSF
....but this is more an argument for inclusion within the FSF generally and not the board, and the "feminist" aspect certainly balances it out.
@jeffcliff Oh wow totally! Before I contribute to the FSF, I want to see a list of the ages and genders of everyone on the board... to make sure most of them look like me, and are of my age cohort.
I certainly follow feminist activists to whatever they engage with... that's really the strength of the open source community, and the assurance of its future.
There is a risk to the free software community if it greys too much. We need to somehow bring in the next generation or the FSF will die shortly after we do.
