Marketing bullcrap doesn't make a platform better or worse, it just makes it more costly (which, in turn, often makes it worse because they want to make their marketing money back at all costs).
User friendliness? I put a link somewhere for my project, which opens a tab where the user can immediately just start talking. No popups, no additional account to register, no email confirmation. You can hardly get more friendly and inviting than that.
What you're meaning to say is "the UI of the average IRC client isn't very slick and shiny". It doesn't need to be. It's a means of open communication, and it excels at that. Much more than Matrix or Discord ever will.
