     @Hyolobrika an engineer said you couldn't have a system where users define a name for their contacts? Any modern contacts app on android or iPhone allows this don't they? Hell nothing requires you to enter a persons real name in email clients either. In matrix you can set a roomnick for yourself on a per DM basis. I don't think you can change someone else's displayed name but it's just a display name anyway not the user's id which is different. A system probably exists somewhere that let's you set aliases for people. If not I don't see any real hurdles to building such a system.
