     @meso @jeremiah irc is great for some purposes including talking to friends that will only use irc but I want someting with equivalent chat features to discord (I don't care about the streaming but audio rooms would be nice)

     @Moon @jeremiah I think at this point I've been on or know details about every single chat service in existence and they all suck :marseygunshotsuicide: except IRC :marseylove: but it can't send images properly which is an issue for certain people

     @jeremiah it was decent but at the time it didnt' have a way to mass-delete or expire old messages. we didn't want to keep history forever, just several days. it did not have a way to do that and the devs said it was very difficult to do. maybe they've added that since then but I don't know. if they added that feature I'd consider mattermost again, but not otherwise.

     @meso @jeremiah @Moon I have been running my own matrix server for a few years. My friends and family that aren't avid nerds can actually use it so I call it a win. I do want to add bridges for xmpp and irc at some point. Just not much of a priority since I would be the only user that would be using it.
