     good to see my memory of plato's dialogues/aristophanes still holds at least that much
     
     the only thing i would add to the above link is i http://pioneer.netserv.chula.ac.th/~tampai1/ampai/3filters.htm shows the email was being sent around earlier than 2003
     
     i remember those days: there was a *lot* of emails that were just being forwarded around uncritically
     
     FW: FW: FW: FW: FW: FW: FW: FW: FW: FW: FW: SOCRATES AND THE GOOD TRUE AND USEFUL
     
     sounds exactly like the sort of meme that would have resonated then
