     You have some winners and some losers when you wait tables. You lose the right to bitch about it when you go into it, because most of the time you come out ahead of the hourly guys. I’ve had to listen to enough gloating from wait staff, if they aren’t personality-deficient then they’re doing much better than the rest of the working crowd.

     I can’t hear “hahah, $600? Ah, Slow night for me! How much you make? $11 an hour? With like, certification and shit? hahahah loser“ for years and then grant my tears when customers have the gall to tip less than 30% to keep up with inflation

     @WashedOutGundamPilot Is it just me, or have they been jacking up the calculated percentages on the check too? IIRC in the past they would have tip calculations for 15%, 18% and 20%. Now I’m seeing stuff like 18%, 20%, 25% and such.

     @WashedOutGundamPilot Well, at least where I am it seems all the places are understaffed. And the boomers around here that frequent these places are pretty uppity and impatient. One thing I can’t figure out is where did all the workers go? It seems to be a problem everywhere, including at my work. They had to do a 14% raise just to help entice more people to work here. Which is great for me, but I don’t know if it’s gonna be enough to attract new people. One department has maybe 30% of the staff they should have. However, part of the problem is the management there fucks with their employees, so they get pissed off and quit. I’m fortunate in that respect. I’m so far away from the admin building that I never interacted with HR again after the day I was hired.

     - Hire shit people (usually women & browns, drug addicted whites because they want someone who can't afford to leave the job)
     
     - Shit people leave, causing issues
     
     - Only the remaining staff show up, they learn to make do with what they have
     
     - employer tires of hiring and training all the time
     
     - things amble along while employees think they're trying to find people
