Remember, pure Grimsokyo fags aren't human. A world can have darker elements without needing to be nothing but violence, horror, and trauma. Sometimes the powerful little girl in a basement can be there of her own free will, content with what she has in life and not looking to do any harm. :flan_smile:

@Iffine IDK much on the Grimsokyo purvue (Closet I’ve seen is KKHTA, which was the first “pure” horror work and honestly turned me off the genre lol), but as for Flan the whole her leaving the basement causing a bit of a panic lol and her breaking all of her toys iirc would give that impression (not talking about Gensou Ibun, as it came out over a decade later).

@Witch_Hunter_Siegfired Flan leaving her basement is a really funny thing for so many to be fixated on for grim stories in particular. She's destructive sure, but hardly violent. She can leave at any time and adheres to danmaku rules like the rest, even back before 17.5 she was mostly portrayed as a shut-in rather than a maniac (the article where Remilia arranges for a meteor to hit Gensokyo so Flan leaves her room to play). It'd cause a bit of panic for some, but hardly be a horrific massacre, she'd just hunt down Reimu or Marisa to play with.
KKHTA is the worst of it for grimfags lmao. So many "western fans" watch it and read zounose doujins and think they've got a grasp on the series. Never mind KKHTA being pure misery porn the author is using to write essentially an Eva fanfic but with Touhou. Then they read the highly opinionated articles and chapters from the literary works obviously meant to be taken with a grain of salt, as they often involve shady youkai perspectives given to humans, and point to them as objective facts.

@Iffine Even KKHTA of all things portrays her as being childish and not understanding the world fully but starting to open up as it were, OFC that all happens before the series and we only hear of it cus grimdark, but it’s not too far off base. Crazy Flan makes sense there at the least as she’s obviously upset Meiling’s had her throat slit.

@Witch_Hunter_Siegfired Yeah fair. Honestly I tried to watch KKHTA to see what the hype was, and while the misery porn grimdark aspect already made me dislike it, the Sanae backstory episode is what did it in. An entire episode dedicated to almost nothing but Sanae misery porn and calling her schizophrenic as a way to make there be emotional strain between all the Moriya shrine group.
If you wanted an emotional series at that point, just watch/read Osana Reimu. Much better writing and the story is much more than misery porn.

@Iffine counterpoint
touhouvania was fucking cool

@Remi True. Should've specified grimdark story, not grim artstyle. Pretty sure the Touhouvania games never get into actual grim stories.
