   Anytime someone starts talking about lowering the age of consent, no matter how outwardly fair or reasonable their opinions seem, it's always for nefarious reasons. If they say they just want to marry 16-year-olds, they're lying, it's not the end goal it's a goalpost they'll move the instant they achieve it.
   
   There is an argument to be made that winning the war on teenage pregnancy (in tandem with extending adolescence well into our 20s) led in part to our current population collapse, but it's one I won't even touch since everyone who does always does it because they secretly want to fuck 12-year-olds.

     @Shadowman311 I once worked with a guy who had a freakish level of knowledge about the dynamics of adolescent marriage - I don't remember much other than the unease, but it seemed like it's all taken care of with parental permission. Repair the family unit and it's not a problem at all: Good parents wouldn't allow an unhealthy marriage, and they're the best judges in looking out for their kids, case closed.

     It's such a pointless argument to have, of course it's used as a wedge issue because it welds together a little bit of every weird subculture's hot dispute topics: Marriage, pedophilia, feminist nagging, sexual morality, 30-yo "adolescents", revenge against bitter roasties, etc

     @Shadowman311 This wouldn't even be an issue if people weren't treated like children well into adulthood. People refer to 22 year old college students as "kids" nowadays. We live in retard world

     Yeah, I completely agree. This topic is so toxic, that there is no civilized way of debating it. Sadly, it crosses way too many broken issues, and everyone sees only one side. -_-

     @Shadowman311 You don't need to lower age of consent to marry a 16-year-old, you just need to get their parents permission. The sticking point for them seems to be having to convince an adult of their good intentions.
