@Spooke Its amazing how ass backwards the laptop market became.
Even smaller laptops used to have shitloads of ports on them and had upgrade options. Now you have overprized disposable machines that force you to haul a hub around with you if you want to do more than just plug in a mouse into the machine. :reimu_sigh:
@Tamamo I legitimately think the best we're getting in terms of "socketed CPUs" is just the framework laptop mainboard swaps and upgradable gpus being the gpu modules framework supplies.
I don't think we'll be getting sockets in a laptop due to the race for thinness.
@Spooke My 14 year old X201T Thinkpad is a small 12inch convertable laptop and has: 3 USB ports, a 56k modem jack, Ethernet jack, VGA out, SD card slot, an Express card slot, headphone jack, microphone jack, Kensington lock *AND* a bay to hold the pen internally with a spring mechanism.
My 2022 15 inch HP convertible laptop has: 2 USB A, 1 USB C and HDMI. And the pen is held with a crappy magnet on the side of the laptop.
@Tamamo my current work laptop is a surface laptop 5 it has 1 usb c port, 1 usb a port, and a surface connect port I am not amused with this layout. I resent not even having an HDMI port as much as I like usb c having to use a dongle for display out is not it.
The T480 I have that I bought used has almost every single port I could want.
@Spooke The last one they ever made in that style was the X230T which has an Ivybrige CPU. I wish i could get my hands on one for a nice price but their hard to find these days.
I really like that style of convertible. Its a much more convenient system that the laptops that you fold over like the Yoga series IMO.
@Tamamo you don't understand how badly I want a framework laptop with a trackpoint. I understand that the framework 13 has 4 ports but at least you can pick what the 4 ports will become. Palm rejection on linux is a meme.
But man I would love to have a x201 like laptop in current year too but never ever as we are not the majority we're the incredibly niche minority.
