   @synapsid Oh yeah, anyways, you’ll find that the higher YOU climb, the more random opportunities come out of nowhere looking to connect you with a girl. People love their women, they want to protect them from the downfalls of the modern world, even if they can’t put that sentiment into words. There’s this psychic tide pushing them up from below, this rising pressure they can’t consciously notice but one that makes the brainstem prickle with nervousness all the same.

   Seeing a guy who’s mature, personable, cool, and put together is catnip for trad people looking to secure happiness for their girls. Before you know it every time you meet someone over 50 they ask if you’re single and start showing you pics of their car/plane/boat/vacation and ‘accidentally’ keep swiping so you can see their 24 yo daughter and gauge your reaction. Before you know it they’re twisting her arm to ‘go out to lunch’ and insisting she come in and wait while he “finishes this call” and sits her in your office for an hour

   (Not to say she’ll be a good wife, you’ll have plenty of uncomfortable “we don’t mesh” stories. I usually preempted this by responding to the single question with “yeah, I am, I’m just in this weird spot with my ex, I dunno”. It’s an okay escape line.)
