   @synapsid This is why I advocate guys just putting the dating search almost on the backburner and hammering away at their career. Once you’re on the upswing, you’ll be sharper, more mature, and more capable of taking a silly, scared little lady under your umbrella and giving her the kind of life her loving parents would find acceptable.

   Optimal? No, I’d much rather have a similarly-aged girl the way my parents/ancestors did, but the world is so much more hostile than it used to be, I find it hard to really want a girl who doesn’t just trust me to be the captain. I tried enough times, I’m much more comfy not having to slap her hand away from the tiller while we navigate a minefield in the dark (because she’s a “co-captain” and SHE gets to steer the ship too!)
