i ended up watching X-Men 97 with my friends over the weekend, or a few episodes anyway. I can see why it's well-liked. there is none of the typical modern quipping, story is told episodically while still maintaining a cohesive overall plot. they have Studio Mir doing the animation, which if you aren't aware are responsible for Netflix's Voltron show and Legend of Korra, so it is very pleasing to look at and any time CG is used it is done well. it certainly earned its success.
but that does come with the usual caveats. one of the characters, Morph, can change between male and female copies of other characters, and is explicitly referred to as "they". one episode is a direct play-by-play of the January 6th "insurrection", with anti-mutant racists storming the Capitol. I was reminded of a discussion topic that's been covered in the past, which is this: are we ready for pozz to be done competently? because a lot of people hide behind the sloppiness of the propaganda being why they resist it, but what happens when all the faggot shit is done with care by its perpetrators? food for thought.
on a side note, Rogue has a full southern accent and i was genuinely surprised to hear that in a hollywood production, even if it is trying to emulate a 90s cast.
