Obviously the swastika as a design is one of the most effective, attractive pieces ever created in the history of graphic design. The proportions, the tilt, the angularity, something about it just works as a brand - obviously this is the plain truth because every friggin allied GI across the globe stole, pilfered, pirated, salvaged, and unstitched every single swastika they came across.
Whatever young guy got this thing probably straight ruined the aircraft he took it from (putting a gaping hole in the rudder and ruining the tension in the fabric), and since it was a little courier plane it has higher chances of being a functional bird he snagged it from.
It's a cool piece, it's just crazy to see how enduring and successful the swastika design is. Even after decades of demonization, one painted on some sailcloth is worth as much as a beater car.
The only thing kind of comparable? Maybe the nike swoosh? That's been quite popular....the japs certainly didn't have the same success - You never saw the seabees cutting the hinomaru off the tail of a kyoufuu
