Excuse me while I sperg out over heatsinks
I found this picture comparing the X61s/t and X61 fans. The one on the far left is the one I previously had. The CPU has zero copper contact but instead contacts the aluminum fan bracket which the heat pipe is soldered on to. Not very efficient
The second from the left is the one I just bought with the Matsushita fan (God bless Panasonic once again). The CPU makes direct contact with copper here, so it'll have significantly better thermal transfer. The fan and heat pipe are slightly larger as well.
Dell did something similar with their Core 2 towers, where you could get a configuration with an aluminum or 6 pipe copper heatsink depending on the CPU you bought. The copper heatsink is SIGNIFICANTLY better here too, my Q9650 never saw over 60°C.
I'll have to test thermals when I get the new screen's LED driver soldered up, but I expect the results to be similar to what I saw when I swapped my Dell's heatsink.
