The Lancet report, which was published on 14 November, estimates that, in Africa, 11% more people over 65 years old died of extreme heat during 2017–22 compared with a baseline period of 2000–05 — when measured as a fraction of deaths per 100,000 people. The equivalent increase for Europe was 8.8% and 7% for South and Central America during the same time period
